Keys to My Dreams: How Elsy Acatitla Changed My Life as a Music Producer

It was a hot summer day in Merida Yucatan, Mexico, and I was just a young aspiring music producer with a dream in my heart and a fire in my soul. As fate would have it, that day would change my life forever.

I had heard of Elsy Acatitla, an award-winning singer who had lost her beloved husband, a renowned music producer. They had built a recording studio together, which had become a sanctuary for musicians in Mexico and beyond. I had always admired her talent and her strength, and had often dreamed of learning from her.

One day, she called me, my heart beating faster with her proposal. We agreed to meet.

We talked for hours, discussing our mutual love for music and our shared passion for the industry. She shared with me the story of how she had lost her husband and how difficult it had been for her to continue their work alone. Despite the pain, she remained determined to keep the studio alive, and she saw in me the potential to carry on her husband's legacy.

With a smile on her face, Elsy handed me the keys to her husband's recording studio and told me to make it my own. She taught me the shortcuts in the music industry and showed me how to work with her clients. I did my first recordings and music arrangements to her clients, and I learned something new with each session.

As we finished our work together, Elsy surprised me once again. She gifted me with her husband's equipment, which was a treasure trove of musical instruments, NS-10m speakers, and other professional-grade tools. It was an incredible gesture of support, and I knew that I would never forget her generosity.

Today, as I look back on my journey, I realize that Elsy Acatitla was not just a talented singer and musician, but also a mentor and a friend. She believed in me when no one else did and saw in me what I could not see in myself. She gave me the opportunity to learn, to grow, and to succeed, and for that, I will always be grateful.

As we celebrate International Women's Day 2023, I raise a toast to Elsy Acatitla, a true trailblazer in the music industry, a woman who dared to dream and made her dreams come true. Thank you for inspiring me, for guiding me, and for embracing equity in a world that often seeks to divide us. You will always be my hero.
